Congressman McEachin on Reduced Cancer Funding in the President’s Budget

March 17, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON - Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) released the following statement about the level of spending proposed by President Trump:

“The proposed level of spending for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicated in the President’s budget blueprint is a punch in the gut for millions of Americans and their families. As a cancer conqueror, I am deeply disheartened by the suggested budget reduction of more than $5 billion. This represents almost 20 percent of NIH’s budget. If the President’s budget actually passed in its present form, it would be responsible for the loss of loved ones, critical biomedical research and opportunities for scientists to work and make a difference. Funding for cancer research – and other healthcare-related programs – should be a priority and have bipartisan support.”
