Congressman McEachin Statement on President Trump’s Conversation with Australian Prime Minister

Press Release

WASHINGTON - Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement in response to the President’s phone conversation with the Australian Prime Minister:

“I remain extremely concerned about the actions of this President. Australia is a staunch and stalwart ally of the United States. But, perhaps at least as important, in a world that the president sees as so dangerous he feels compelled to issue a travel ban based on religion, arbitrarily singling out some people and some countries, a ban that has serious economic repercussions, that disconcerts our allies, that separates families and completely undermines our principles and values, he then intentionally jeopardizes our relationship with a longtime ally. One would think that in a world so untrustworthy and dangerous as the president sees it, he would appreciate the value of an ally who has stuck by us. And not just stuck by us in word, but most assuredly in deed.

“As Senator McCain notes, this is an ally whose people have made the ultimate sacrifice so we and the rest of the world can be safe and secure. This is an ally who has put lives on the line and lost citizens – husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers – to uphold the same values and principles of liberty and freedom, safety and security, that we hold dear.”
