Congressman McEachin's Statement on January's Jobs Report

February 3, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) made the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the economy added 227,00 jobs this January.

“The January jobs report is a continuation of the leadership and stellar economic plan of former President Obama. Americans are able to benefit from a low unemployment rate because of Obama’s dedication and investment in what makes America strongest, our hardworking people. Sadly, there are some families who haven't not yet secured a career opportunity after the Great Recession and we need to prioritize investing in and building up our most vulnerable communities.

“America is strongest when we act to the benefit of many, not the select few. As we continue to add jobs to our economy, our country should prioritize investing in green jobs. Green jobs are a dual investment in improving the economic fortunes of hardworking people and preserving our environment for future generations. Investing in clean energy creates sustainable well-paying jobs in addition to serving as an important tool for diversifying the economy with a skilled 21st century workforce that will compete globally.”
