VA Department of Transportation will use funds to recover from Matthew

Chesapeake, Va. – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) announced a $2 million grant award for the Virginia Department of Transportation to repair Hampton Roads’ highways and roads damaged by Hurricane Matthew.

“I am relieved to see this assistance coming to Hampton Roads,” said Congressman Donald McEachin. “This grant will provide our community with resources to correct the damage caused last year by Hurricane Matthew, which turned out to be the first of many storms causing far greater flooding than anticipated. The rebuilding process also serves as a reminder that we must take every step possible to mitigate damage before a storm – and that includes combatting climate change.

Emergency Relief (ER) funds from the Federal Highway Administration are granted to repair federal highways and roads after states of emergency caused by natural disasters. Parts of Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk experienced significant damage caused by Hurricane Matthew.
