McEachin Applauds Passage of No BAN Act
WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) today applauded the passage through the House of Representatives of H.R. 1333, the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act. This important legislation prohibits discrimination in immigration policy on the basis of religion, and puts checks and balances on the president’s authority to limit classes of people from entering the country.
“The bigotry and Islamophobia apparent in the last Administration’s heinous Muslim immigration bans must not be repeated,” McEachin said. “In our country, that prides itself on freedom of religion, prejudice must not be the basis for policy.
“This legislation very simply affirms our proud national principles that religious bigotry should not and must not be the basis for national policy. The president must not be allowed to single-handedly and arbitrarily exclude a religion or class of people. It’s un-American. I was proud to cosponsor and vote for this legislation, and I will always stand strong against hate and discrimination.”
