McEachin April Jobs Statement
WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) made the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the economy added 211,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate stands at 4.4 percent.
"I cannot celebrate this month’s jobs report knowing that 24 million Americans are in danger of losing access to life-saving healthcare. The health and wellness of all Americans is important no matter their age, gender, socioeconomic status, race, or any other trait. Yesterday, House Republicans rejected that truth in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthy few. Far too often in our country we see wealth and wellness tied together. Without healthcare, low-income families will struggle to get ahead economically. Access to healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and our government must do a much better job of guaranteeing that right — or there will be dire consequences for both families and the economy."
