Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) recently cosponsored the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Grant Program Act. This bipartisan bill creates a dedicated source of funding for projects that expand outdoor recreational opportunities in cities across the country.

“Not only do urban green spaces offer a plethora of environmental benefits, but they have immeasurable impacts on residents’ quality of life as well. Creating new parks and recreational spaces provide children and adults with space to play, exercise, explore, and learn in their communities. I strongly believe that our nation’s diverse and abundant outdoor spaces are great benefits to the communities. This bill will enable many more Americans to enjoy and appreciate these precious spaces,” said Congressman Donald McEachin.

With 80 percent of Americans living in metropolitan areas, the creation and care of our parks and recreational facilities in urban and underserved areas is paramount. Open space in urban areas can protect water quality, reduce soil erosion, improve air quality, and aid in the conservation of natural resources.
