House Passes H.R. 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) voted to help pass H.R. 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, to deliver robust federal investments in America’s crumbling infrastructure. The bipartisan, bicameral bill, which passed the Senate with a vote of 69-30 on August 10, 2021, makes historic investment in America’s roads and bridges, water infrastructure, resilience, and internet.

“I was proud to vote in support of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to deliver progress for working families and their communities across the country,” said Rep. McEachin (VA-04). “This legislation is an important step in modernizing our nation’s infrastructure, removing contaminated water lines, improving water quality for Americans, expanding access to high-speed, reliable broadband, and electrifying our nation’s school buses. This package will also create millions of good-paying and family-sustaining jobs for Virginians and Americans across the country.

“Now that we have advanced the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package and it has been sent to President Biden’s desk, we must focus our attention on the Build Back Better Act. I look forward to building on the progress we made today and taking historic action to invest in our nation, hard-working families, and our planet by passing the Build Back Better Act as soon as possible.”

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:

  • Makes the largest federal investment in public transit ever
  • Makes the largest federal investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak
  • Makes the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system
  • Makes the largest investment in clean drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in American history, delivering clean water to millions of families
  • Ensures every American has access to reliable high-speed internet
  • Begins to tackle the climate crisis by making the largest investment in clean energy transmission and EV infrastructure in history; electrifying thousands of school and transit buses across the country; and creating a new Grid Deployment Authority to build a resilient, clean, 21st century electric grid
