McEachin Praises President Biden’s $2 Trillion Infrastructure Plan
WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued the following statement regarding President Biden’s $2 trillion American Jobs Plan to overhaul U.S. transportation infrastructure, water systems, broadband and manufacturing:
““President Biden’s American Jobs Plan holds the forward-thinking solutions the country needs to revitalize our economy post-pandemic, placing equity and climate action at the forefront of American infrastructure and innovation for a generation.
“The enhancements outlined for resilient housing, roads, bridges and transit systems will bring with them new, well-paid union jobs to re-energize the middle class while key investments in public utilities will improve access to clean drinking water for all Americans and bridge the digital divide with broadband expansion in underserved communities.
“I look forward to building on the President’s proposal and quickly advancing the resources needed to deliver the just, equitable and climate-conscious future communities in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District and across the country deserve.”
The American Jobs Plan proposal includes:
- Investing $621 billion into transportation infrastructure such as bridges, roads, public transit, ports, airports and electric vehicle development;
- Directing $300 billion into improving drinking-water infrastructure, expanding broadband access and upgrading electric grids in underdeveloped areas;
- Upgrading building and affordable housing with more than $300 billion in addition to constructing and upgrading schools; and
- Investing $100 million in workforce development that targets underserved groups and developing worker protections systems.
