McEachin on Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April 5, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON - Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement acknowledging April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month:

“April is recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month to bring attention to this heinous crime. We must educate and act to eradicate the occurrence of sexual assault in our communities. The recent updates to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 require higher education communities across the country to increase awareness and prevention efforts against forms of sexual assault against students, faculty and staff members.

"I am proud to support the ERA which would address these issues and give women the constitutional protections they deserve.

“I am a cosponsor of the resolution recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month because this serious issue deserves nationwide attention to educate as many individuals as possible about sexual assault and what we can do to prevent this crime.”
