McEachin Statement on CBO Report Claiming 22 Million Americans Will be Uninsured
WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement following the CBO Cost Estimate report of the Senate’s latest version of Trumpcare, the bill that will leave 22 million Americans without healthcare by 2026:
“Now it is crystal clear that the Republican bill will take health care away from 22 million Americans, to fund tax cuts for the top one percent. The women, children, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities who rely on access to affordable care will unnecessarily suffer, if this bill is signed into law. In the 4th Congressional District alone, more than 50,000 people stand to lose coverage.
“If this latest version of Trumpcare passes, hardworking Americans will have to choose between meeting basic needs and paying for care. The bill will increase premiums; gut key protections; enable discrimination based on pre-existing conditions; and impose a crushing age tax on seniors. This bill is toxic for Americans of every age, class, and background. I urge my Republican colleagues in the Senate to put the needs of the American people ahead of their selfish political concerns. To keep America great, we need to expand — not reduce — access to care!”
