McEachin Statement on Court Ruling to Block President Trump's Transgender Military Ban

Press Release

RICHMONDCongressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement following the Washington, D.C. district court ruling that largely blocks President Trump’s baseless transgender military servicemember ban:

“I am pleased to see that the judicial branch once again served as a safeguard for our American values. No one should ever be unfairly targeted because of who that person is or how that person can be labeled — least of all the brave Americans who serve in our military.

“Today a federal judge ruled to uphold our laws and values. The President’s baseless transgender military ban was – just as I have repeatedly said since July – another discriminatory item on the White House’s hate-filled agenda. I am confident that today’s injunction heralds the eventual defeat of the president’s ban on constitutional grounds. Transgender individuals are currently serving our country in uniform. Just like all servicemembers who honorably serve our country, they deserve nothing less than our unwavering gratitude, support, and respect. This ban remains a slap in the face to every one of those Americans, and I am pleased that it has largely been blocked from taking effect.”
