McEachin Statement on Pulse Nightclub Shooting Remembrance

June 12, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTONCongressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued the following statement in remembrance of the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, one year ago today:

“My thoughts and prayers are with the survivors and families of the 49 innocent individuals who were murdered at the Pulse Nightclub shooting one year ago today. Today, we mark the deadliest mass shooting in United States’ history and praise the city of Orlando for showing immaculate strength and resilience in the face of this tragedy.

“Those who went to the Pulse Nightclub that evening went there to celebrate their life and to be with friends.  Instead they were violently attacked in an occurrence that can only be described as evil. I know words of condolence will do little to comfort the families and friends of those who were taken that terrible night, so in addition to my sympathy and prayers I would like to offer my word – I promise that I will always fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community. I will continue to combat hate and discrimination at the federal level just as I did during my tenure at the General Assembly.

“I vow to do everything in my power to ensure that history never repeats itself. All people deserve to live free from violence no matter who they are or who they love. As a mark of this promise, I have cosponsored the House Resolution that will acknowledge this day, remember the victims, their families, the survivors; reaffirm support for our first responders; and reiterate opposition to all forms of terrorism, hatred, prejudice and violence.”
