McEachin Statement on Trump Administration's Decision to Rollback Contraception Coverage
RICHMOND - Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement following the Trump Administration’s decision to remove the federal mandate for employer-sponsored contraception coverage:
“The Trump Administration’s latest attack on women’s healthcare options will hurt millions of families and, potentially, impose new costs for coverage. With today’s rule reversal, women might have to make a choice between affordable contraception and paying for this week’s groceries – solely because of their employers’ personal beliefs.
“Women may use contraceptives for a variety of health reasons - birth control or prescribed by a physician for a variety of female health issues. This administration has unilaterally decided that women can be deprived of this potentially necessary medication because of the whim of an employer. This administration would rather empower anyone else – in this case a woman’s employer – to make the choice for her.
“Mr. Trump’s vow to make America great was clearly a masked vow to reverse progress. These measures were written into the Affordable Care Act solely to improve Americans' lives. I urge the President to reconsider this dangerous attack on families and focus on improving the Affordable Care Act.”
