WASHINGTON – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement following President Trump’s executive order that attacks protecting the nations’ monuments:

"For more than a century, the Antiquities Act has been a critical conservation tool – protecting and preserving iconic places like Virginia’s Fort Monroe. President Donald Trump’s executive order is an unprecedented attack on our public lands and national heritage. Instead of exposing our lands to private exploitation, we should be protecting them for future generations. This executive order is a dangerous step in the wrong direction.

As the Ranking Member on Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, under the House Committee on Natural Resources’ I will stand up for our national monuments and oppose any attempts to remove protections for places Americans hold dear.”
