McEachin on Vote to Support Omnibus Bill

May 3, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTONCongressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement following his vote in support of the omnibus bill allocating $1.07 trillion to fund the government through September 30, 2017.

“This fiscal compromise protects important services Virginians rely on everyday — including select initiatives the Trump Administration tried to end.

“The bill does not fund President Trump’s absurd and unnecessary border wall; does not defund Planned Parenthood; and does not make devastating cuts to the EPA. However, it does prevent shipyard layoffs in Hampton Roads; allocate new funding to the National Institutes of Health; restore year-round access to Pell grants; fund Chesapeake Bay cleanup efforts; and increase funding to combat the opioid epidemic – all of which are important priorities for my constituents.

“I am proud that my Democratic colleagues and I were able to ensure that hardworking Americans were protected. This bill passed the House of Representatives because of Democratic votes. We will continue our fight for American families’ needs and priorities in the future.”
